So on our way home from the Jensen Family Reunion in Lodi I got a call from my sister wondering when we were going to pay her a visit (she's been married for 2 years and living in Provo, and lived there for a while before that ... and I have yet to visit her). Anyway, shortly after Chris and I decided to go right away. 2 hours later we were on our way to Utah (which is a miracle in itself, I usually take a whole day to pack)

Here we are somewhere between Salt Lake City and Provo at sunrise.

After crashing for a few hours we packed a picnic and headed to Bridal Veil Falls.

Afterwards we took another nap. Hey, we were tired.

The next morning we headed to Provo High to watch the hot air balloons take off. (Oh this all took place at 5:30 PST ... a little tidbit of info far ya)

a little bit of chaos ensued.

Afterwards was the 4th of July parade. Brody was so cute. He kept helping Marley see the "princesses".

Boating. I'm sorry but I'm going to brag. Our three kids innertubed, yeah, even Marley got on the innertube ... how cool is that?!

Nothing like the "gentle" rocking of a boat to put you to sleep.

Tuesday we went to Rock Canyon Park. It's really just snow run-off diverted to this park. The water was FREEZING. I swear, my kids are crazy.

As you can tell by Dannon's expression, he is really the only sane one in the lot.

Onto Ice Cream from BYU Creamery.

Cali LOVED my ice cream. For some reason though, now she won't eat baby food ... huh.

A thunderstorm rolled in, which we watched from the "Y" parking lot.

Wednesday morning, on our way out, we stopped by the BYU creamery factory to see how the ice cream is made. Thank you Jeff for the tour.

Our last stop was temple square in Salt Lake City. First we took a tour of the conference center.

We were amazed at the size of this painting, which was created for a world fair.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. I can't believe how quickly the weekend flew by. Everything was a blast, even the down time. Thank you so much Jenn and Jeff and the Worthens for putting us up, feeding us, and letting us take over your weekend. You guys were so great! We definitely won't wait as long to take the trek back on up to the land of milk and honey.

We went to 6 Flags recently with the Shumways and had a blast!

No benches available to feed Cali ...

Such a big girl ... riding Dumbo all by herself. I thought it was like Disneyland. I squeezed on the elephant with her, my knees touching the front the space available. Then the ride attendant came to me and told me I was too big to ride. HAHA! Apparently they don't care to have adults accompany their children.

After waiting in line for nearly an hour, and being surprisingly excited to ride the Boomerang, he was turned away. Barely too short. So he settled for this boat ride instead. I think he liked it enough.

After the previous pictures the Shumways left us. We decided to go see the "Shouka, the Whale" show. We sat in the "Splash Zone" which should really be titled the "Soak Zone," we soon found out. There's nothing like have 5 gallons of salt water dumped on you and your family (and including your sleeping baby). Big mistake. Needless to say, we didn't stick around too much longer, we were exhuasted, wet, and cold (by now it was getting later and the wind was picking up and the temperature dropping). Despite all of the above, it was so much fun. Thanks Shumway Family for inviting us!!

Ginger, Tyson, Cali, Chris, and I took a trip to Tahoe recently to celebrate all of our 10 year anniversaries. Couldn't believe we got snow on the way up ... in June. It was pretty crazy.

Jenn and Jeff came into town for the holiday. It was such a blast. I really should've just labeled this post "JENN!!" We love it when she's in town.

Like this one. But so cute. I love that Brody reads books to his younger siblings. He's such a good big brother.

My mom and I, along with my two girls, trekked down to Fresno for my grandpa's 85th birthday. It was a quick one-nighter trip and so worth it. We had a blast seeing all of the family. You know you like his candle.

Okay, brief overview of how Cali was born.

2 1/2 week before due date: Head down and weighing approximately 7 lbs 13 oz by ultrasound ... hello doctor - that's a big clue!!

1 week before due date: Cali turned and was now breech, scheduled c-section for Jan 4th, day after due date.

On due date, Jan 3rd, ultrasound confirms that Cali turned once again and was head down, c-section cancelled, induction scheduled for the 11th.

Jan 7th: I took 3 TBS of castor oil - which was horrible. Contractions start a few hours later. Go to the hospital at midnight. Stay a few hours and I'm in early labor ... sent home.

Slept the 8th away.

Woke up at 4:30 am on the 9th to a bad contraction and my water breaking. That was a shock, because I have had to be induced every time in the past. Anyway, got to the hospital ... I was at a 3-4. Got an epidural right away. Cali was born at 11:59 am.

To sum up December is Christmas ... obviously. There are a few random pics in here, but overall, this post is just Christmas festivities.

This past weekend we celebrated Dad's, my brother Bennett's, and Marley's birthdays.

My Dad was very excited about the parts for the gun that he got.

Marley, waited very sweetly and patiently 'til it was her turn.

We went camping at Calaveras Big Trees State Park and LOVED it. So much to do in such a beautiful place. The kids loved playing on these logs.

Okay ... so story time. Brody "shuffled" the cards for our game of Sorry. I could tell something was fishy by how he was acting. He got to go first in the game. It was really amazing how the first two cards in the deck were 2s ... he got caught!

They have daily activities for the kids ... Dannon and Marley joined the junior cub group (ages 3 - 6)

And Brody was a junior ranger. They loved it.

One tradition we have when we take a trip is having a meal at Round Table pizza. We splurged this time and got rings out of the toy/sticker dispensers. I bet you can't guess which hands are mine ... oh wait, they're the white ones.

This last week my cousin, Kristen, and her kids came to visit for the week. We kept busy with just about anything that could wear out 5 kids under 6.

So the week started at Meek's Bay at Tahoe ...

The fair had an awesome dinosaur exhibit ... don't miss that one!

The kids had, as Brody described it, "THE BEST DAY EVER!" I love how easy they are to please. It was a little too warm yesterday to jump on the trampolene in the sun and a little too cold to play in the sprinklers. So the kids did both. Over and over and over again.

The kids loved having maps.

Ginger and Tyson were great babysitters for the little ones while the rest of us went on the rides. Although one time when Tyson was left to babysit, Marley had fallen asleep in the jogger and some random lady took it upon herself to report to the authorities that Marley was left unattended. Tyson was sitting a couple of feet away from her. It was pretty funny coming back from a ride and seeing a frantic lady bringing along Disney employees to check out Marley while Tyson sitting right there. Crazy lady.

This poor little guy ended up with the stomach flu. This is right after he threw up in the line for Soaring over California.

I didn't want to get my hair wet ...

Oh, and this is right after Zane threw up the second time. Marley wasn't a big fan of the bears.

So at this point Ginger and Tyson took some of the kids home and we were left with our two boys and Makenna.

Dannon on time-out. He couldn't let go of our pockets. This was a great way to do time-out in line since we were always moving.

On the Ferris Wheel. We forgot our coats and it got really chilly. The kids do love Dannon but here they were actually all just trying to keep warm.

As you can tell ... I had a blast! I seriously think Disneyland is heaven on earth (sorry for blaspheming)

Waiting to speak to crush ... if/when you go to California Adventure ... make time to visit crush. It is so fun and seriously worth it.

It's funny how every year, come January, I am again amazed at how fast the past year came and went. Guess it’s true … the older you get, the quicker time flies by. Nothing extraordinary or life altering has taken place this last year, but our days have been filled little laughs and small milestones. It has been a wonderful year. It truly is the small things in life the make it meaningful.

So the first small thing in our life is Brody. He’s in first grade, and progressing quickly. While being a little talkative (if you didn't catch the sarcasm - that's an understatement), he somehow manages to be in the top of his class. He has a sweet heart, a left brain, and an eagerness to please. I think he's about the best big brother around, well at least to Marley.

Another small thing in our life is a bundle of energy. Dannon, in a few terms, is curious, hands-on, slightly stubborn, mischievous, and, in a nutshell, Chris reincarnated. We love watching his mind work, and seeing him smile as he discovers us watching.

And then there’s Marley, the smallest of all our “things”. Our little princess is literally that. She's made of a little bit of sugar and a lot of spice ... just what Chris ordered. She definitely rules our roost and we are more than willing to let her.

As for the two of us, we’ve been married for 8 years now and are happier than we’ve ever been. Chris has begun his fourth year as an insurance broker. We feel very blessed to have made it through the first three years and are excited for the upcoming one. I enjoy being a stay-at-home mom, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so.

All in all – life is good.

The end result. Don't judge. I had forgotten that I threw away the majority of our Christmas ornaments last year after Christmas, which was a little disappointing for the kids. What's more sad though, is that I never took the time, nor did I really want to spend the money, to get new ones. So this is about as good as it got for the holiday season.

Our kids have been cracking us up lately:

On Monday evening we went to my mom's to go through their Halloween costumes. Dannon found a batman costume that he liked. At some point in the evening we heard the front door open. We assumed it was Dannon, but after looking outside started to doubt ourselves. So we looked other places for a while because Dannon was missing. Once we returned to the front yard again, we noticed Suki and Natalie Kuresa on the front porch laughing. Apparently Dannon, dressed up as the cutest batman ever, had ran quickly over to the Kuresa's, let himself in, sat down on the floor, and played with their granddaughter. Funny, and scary at the same time. Crazy kid!

Yesterday I told Brody to get in the shower and he replied, "Um, I'm thinking about it." Wow, he's growing up a little too fast.

And last night Marley carried a stool over to the piano, got on the stool, and carefully put some books on top of the piano. We clapped for her because it was just too cute. She got off the stool and bowed. Hahaha, we have no idea where she picked that one up, but she continued to bow the rest of the night (possibly because of the reaction she got from us).

Anyway, just thought I would share.

I hope you are up for a long posting; a lot has gone on the last few weeks.

So a few weeks ago we had family home evening at the temple. We like to have a picnic dinner behind Mormon Center, talk a little about the temple, and eat. This time it ended up with a dance party on the stage. These pics were taken with Chris' phone. Despite the blurriness, you get the idea.

A couple days after we headed to the pumpkin patch. We went with some friends and had a blast!

The boys both just had birthdays. Brody just turned 6 and Dannon 4. So we rallied all the family together for a combo party at the park.

Lovely I know. We went kayaking in the bay. It was a lot of fun, and a the wind made it a nice work out too.

Saturday we decided to go whale watching and had some time to kill before departure. Chris tried to try on some cheesy glasses.

Finally on the boat. It was a blast. We didn't see any whales but we did see some Dallis Dolphins, I think that's what they're called. They look like a mix between a killer whale and a dolphin. It was so exciting to see them. We were at the bough (sp?) of the ship and got a close view of them swimming right underneath us. Anyway sad news that we didn't see whales, but the place is so awesome they gave us a rain check. So next year, we'll test our luck again.

Okay, this is kind-of a black male video, but it's so funny I had to post it. We decided to take a break from the cold and wind. You can't tell from the video when we go up and down because the camera is going up and down too, but it was a very bumpy ride.

Can a guy ever get enough tools ... I don't think so.

(Disclaimer: Marley started off looking so cute for her birthday party, but after playing in the sandbox, eating pizza, wetting her pants, and ending up having to wear a pair of her uncles underwear for shorts - let's just say she didn't look her best)

Sadly, this wasn't as much of a hit. My mom made her an apron that we've both been pretty excited about. We thought she would LOVE it. Not yet, but she soon will.

After things had wound down a bit the adults were sitting at the kitchen table and through the family sliding door, and my parents bedroom sliding door and through the curtains, we were able to see Marley sitting in my dad's chair all by herself, having a conversation with a princess.

Marley's toys have been quite a hit with Dannon too. He loves the babies diapers and the cell phone.

Yay!!! Daddies home!!!

They don't know it yet but today we snagged Jeff and Meggie's jet ski and had fun at the lake. Thanks Jeff and Meggie!

Yesterday we took a quick day trip up to Tahoe and visited Meek's Bay. Both mom and I forgot our cameras so this picture is actually from 2007. But honestly, the only difference is the kids would be 2 years older.

For the Fourth of July we joined the Dees side of the family for the annual Roseville 4th wards breakfast at the park, which always includes a kids parade. Marley is already getting picked up by the local boys. Dad had better watch out!!!

While Jenn, Mom, and I were out shopping for clothes for the upcoming festivities, Chris took the boys out for some guy time. They ended up at the Air and Space Museum.

Friday morning, the 10th, a friend of mine and I put the wedding cake together. Luckily, the same weekend, the Shumways were in town. So Chris took the kids to play with their cousins in Roseville while I finished up Jenn's wedding cake (pictures at end of post).

Another hike ....

We attempted to hike to University Falls but apparently we started out on the wrong trail, so we never made it. It was a pretty hike anyway.

We told the boys that we would end up swimming at the falls, which didn't happen. So to make it up to them, we took them to the river by Ponderosa Bridge.

We start them young. How many years before he's going off the bridge ... who knows?

Our Summer Mornings ...

I know this isn't very exciting, but this is what we do just about every morning. Marley is very happy to be holding my water bottle, well I guess we all share it, so it's more of a community/family water bottle. But I fill it up with only me in mind. Seriously, nothing is mine anymore. Do I sound pathetic?

Brody seems to think he's some sort of a tourist or something. So cute though, he has a blast on the bike.

We haven't been taking very many pictures lately, but here are a few of the somewhat recent happenings.

Brody graduated from Kindergarten. Here he is goofing off with his friends during the ceremony.

Chris just went on a three day, two night trek. He and his beard had an amazing time.

This morning I gave Marley a bath and all the towels were in the wash ... but isn't a hand towel so much cuter?

Chris' Birthday Weekend

I told Chris we would do whatever he wanted to do for his birthday. And that's what we did, all weekend long.

First we hiked to Hidden Falls in Loomis.

Marley and Chris bonded quite a bit on this hike. She kept grabbing his head, turning it, and then point out something. Really all she was doing is repeating back something that Chris had just told the boys. It gave us quite a few smiles anyhow.

Something about this all reminded me of Dinkey Creek, even the part when Brody fell in the water.

And the part when we crossed the creek on rocks. Here I am saying, "I'm not falling in. I'm not falling in."

Heading back. We took a few short cuts, which ended up being steep hills.

That night Chris decided he wanted to go to the beach the next day ... so we went. Here we are at Dorans Beach.

These past two days were a little exhausting for the kids.

We spent the night here.

Then headed back to the beach on Monday. We first hiked to Shell beach. We got half-way down the hill and decided it probably wasn't the best beach for the kids. So we turned around. It was gorgeous though.

We ended up at Goat Rock Beach.

He was a little excited about all the cool rocks he was finding.

So Dannon fell in the water and soaked his pants, hense he doesn't have pants on.

From the beach, we went straight to Jake and Em's for some swimming and Memorial Day bar-b-que. The camera got packed away though and so we didn't get any pics. So sad. Anyway, it was a great weekend, don't think we'll ever forget it. Happy Birthday Chris!! I love you.
